What Hold the Floor is

  • A practice tool for rehearsing conversations and sounds out loud. It isn't therapy, medical, legal, financial or immigration advice, and it doesn't diagnose or treat anything.
  • The practice partner is an AI (Claude, made by Anthropic). It is not a person, a coach or a therapist. It can be wrong, and what it says in a role (an interviewer, a landlord, an officer) is practice, never a promise or a prediction of a real outcome.
  • Feedback and starting levels are suggestions to help you practise. They are not tests, grades or certificates of your English.
02

Who can use it

You must be 13 or older. If your device tells the app you're under 13 (Apple's Declared Age Range, where the law asks for it), the app stops and nothing is collected. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian should agree to these terms with you, and where the law asks for it, a parent or guardian approves big changes to the app before you carry on.

03

Your words and your content

  • Your rehearsals stay on your phone. When you rehearse with the AI partner, and only after you agree, the words of your turns are sent to the AI service to make the reply (see the privacy policy). We don't keep them.
  • You keep any rights you have in what you say and write. You give us only the permission we need to process it to give you the service.
  • Don't use Hold the Floor to break the law, to harm or harass anyone, to try to make the AI produce harmful content, or to get around the app's limits or security.
04

Free and Pro

  • Free includes one live rehearsal a week, today's 2 or 3 Clarity sounds every day, every Gentle scene, Level 1 of the daily path and every accessibility setting. Pro adds up to 12 live rehearsals a week (fair use), job ads and a tougher partner, all 45 Clarity sounds, every level of the daily path and your full history.
  • Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold and billed by Apple. Prices, trials, renewal, cancellation and refunds follow Apple's terms; cancel in your iPhone's Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn't cancel it.
  • To keep the service fair and affordable, live rehearsals have limits and may pause (for example, at a monthly cost limit or during an outage). Gentle scenes and Clarity keep working.
  • Codes from a school, college, employer or the App Store give Pro for the period the code or your organisation states.
05

Availability and changes

We may change, add or remove features, scenes and voices. We aim to keep the app working but can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.

06

Safety

If something you say suggests you may be in danger, the app stops the rehearsal and shows where to find help. Hold the Floor is not a crisis service. If you are in danger, contact your local emergency number.

07

Liability

To the extent the law allows, the app is provided as is. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be limited (for example, the Australian Consumer Law guarantees).

08

Ending

You can stop using the app and delete your data at any time (Settings › Privacy › Delete my data). We may suspend access that breaks these terms.

09

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
