Folio AAC · Support
Human help, and quickly.
Folio is somebody’s voice. If a core feature is failing, say URGENT — and here are the fixes for the things that most often go wrong.
Available on the App Store · last updated 2026-07-29.
What Folio is
Folio AAC is a talker for nonspeaking and minimally speaking people who type to speak: compose a message, tap Speak, or reuse a saved phrase. There is no Folio account and no advertising.
If Folio is part of someone’s daily communication and a core feature is failing, put URGENT in the email subject and include the iPhone or iPad model, the iOS version, and the last action before the problem.

The voice sounds basic
Open iOS or iPadOS Settings → Accessibility → Read & Speak (called Spoken Content on earlier versions) → Voices and download an Enhanced or Premium voice. Then choose it in Folio → Settings → Voice. Downloads are managed by Apple and may need Wi-Fi and free device storage.
Use Personal Voice where supported
First create a Personal Voice in iOS Settings → Accessibility → Personal Voice. Then open Folio → Settings → Voice and follow the status shown there: choose Allow Personal Voice access… if access has not been requested, Open Folio Settings if it was denied, or Refresh voice list after setup finishes. When it is available, choose the voice marked Personal Voice. Folio explains when the device does not support this feature.
Listening will not start
Conversation Mode needs both Microphone and Speech Recognition permission and an Apple on-device recogniser for the current language. Check iOS Settings → Apps → Folio AAC. Typing and speaking continue to work when Listen is unavailable.
Smart replies are not appearing
Library suggestions and word prediction work on every supported device. Apple on-device model replies need a supported Apple Intelligence device, language and system setup. When that model is unavailable, Folio keeps showing private library suggestions instead of sending the conversation to a server.
Add medical information to the emergency board
Open Folio → Settings → Emergency → Medical information. Every field is optional: a name, a blood type, allergies, conditions and medication, and an emergency contact. Whatever you type appears as a card below the emergency phrases — the phrases always come first — and Show large fills the screen so somebody helping can read it at arm’s length. Nothing on the card is ever spoken aloud, and nothing leaves the device. Leave every field empty and no card is stored or shown. The Settings PIN protects editing the card, not reading it: that is deliberate, so a paramedic is never locked out. The Privacy Policy says exactly which three places on the device hold that text.
Find something you said earlier
Open Folio → History. Search matches anything you have spoken, and entries are grouped by day with the time. Say again speaks a line straight back without loading it into the composer, Save to phrases keeps it, and Delete all history clears the log. Incognito stops history being written at all.
Back up saved communication
Open Folio → Settings → Backup → Export backup, then save the JSON file to Files, AirDrop it, or store it somewhere you control. The file holds your phrases, boards, shortcuts and — if you filled it in — your medical information, as readable JSON, so keep it wherever you would keep anything else private. Import merges missing phrases, boards and shortcuts and never blanks a field you have already filled in; it does not erase existing content. Keep a recent export before reinstalling Folio.
Restore Folio Pro
Use Folio → Settings → Restore purchases while signed in to the Apple Account that bought Folio Pro. The purchase is one-time and supports Family Sharing. Apple handles charges and refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com.
A saved-data warning appeared
Do not delete Folio. The warning means Folio refused to replace a store it could not safely open. Restart the device and tap Try again. If it remains, contact support before reinstalling and mention “saved data warning”.
Accessibility feedback
If VoiceOver, Switch Control, Dynamic Type or your access method cannot complete a communication task, please report the exact screen and control. Accessibility blockers are treated as product defects.
