Terms of Use
The plain-language terms for using Folio AAC and its one-time Folio Pro purchase.
Available on the App Store · last updated 2026-07-29.
1. About these terms
Folio AAC (the “App”) is provided by KindAbilities and KeenShift (“we”, “us”, “our”). These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, govern your use of the App. Folio is distributed through the Apple App Store under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement; these notes explain product-specific points and supplement that agreement.
2. Communication tool, not an emergency service
Folio is a communication tool. It is not a medical device, an emergency service, or a source of medical advice. Device batteries, speakers, permissions, storage, operating systems and software can all fail. Maintain an appropriate backup way to communicate or to seek help for your circumstances.
3. Core communication and Folio Pro
Typing, speaking, emergency phrases, switch scanning and core local communication remain usable without Folio Pro. Folio Pro unlocks the paid features described in the app, including expanded suggestion and organisation limits. It is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase — not a subscription — and the App Store shows your regional price before payment. Family Sharing is supported while Apple’s product configuration remains enabled.
Restore a purchase from Folio → Settings → Restore purchases. Apple handles charges and refund requests at reportaproblem.apple.com.
4. Your content and control
Your phrases, messages and backup files remain yours, and we claim no ownership of them. Suggestions are optional drafts and may be incomplete or wrong: review and choose any text before Folio speaks it. Folio does not automatically insert or speak a suggested reply.
5. The medical card on the emergency board
The optional medical card shows back exactly the text you or a carer typed. Folio does not check, interpret, complete or derive anything medical from it, does not decide whether it is accurate or current, and does not alert, dial or notify anyone. Keeping it correct is yours to do. It is a written note held up on your behalf — not a clinical record, a medical-alert service, or a substitute for a medical ID, a bracelet, or telling a clinician directly. Our Privacy Policy explains where that text is stored and that it travels into device backups.
6. Availability
Core communication is designed to work on-device. Apple on-device model suggestions require compatible hardware, software, language and system availability; Folio falls back to its local phrase library when that model is unavailable.
7. Acceptable use and intellectual property
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Folio on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as Apple’s Standard EULA and these terms permit. Do not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, redistribute, unlawfully use, or interfere with the App except where applicable law expressly allows it. The App and its content are owned by us or our licensors.
8. Warranties and liability
The App is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or data-loss damages arising from use of the App. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, including rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
9. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content, and is a third-party beneficiary entitled to enforce these terms as applicable.
10. Changes and termination
You may stop using and delete Folio at any time. We may update these terms or end a licence for material breach; the revised date will appear here.
